Message from president

Dear Colleagues and Friends

It is both a profound honour and a great privilege for me to serve as the President of the Asian Oceanian Society of Neuropathology (AOSNP), and I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all members for entrusting me with this responsibility. The AOSNP is a distinguished and dynamic society, dedicated to advancing the discipline of Neuropathology across our vast and diverse Asian-Oceanian region. Since our formal inception on September 25, 2021, at a landmark event hosted in India, we have grown rapidly, uniting experts from over a dozen nations and fostering a vibrant network of collaboration. Guided by a clear mission, we work to enhance the quality of Neuropathology practice, promote knowledge exchange and support education, training, and research especially in resource-constrained settings.

Our strength lies in the collective expertise, dedication and vision of our members. One of our most significant achievements in this short period has been the AOSNP-ADAPTR initiative, which translates the WHO CNS5 guidelines for CNS tumors into practical diagnostic workflows suited to low-resource environments. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to equity in healthcare ensuring that accurate, high-quality neuropathological diagnosis is accessible to patients regardless of geography or economic context.

We also plan to collectively focus on neurological disorders that are particularly prevalent in our region—infectious, inflammatory, metabolic, nutritional, and neuromuscular diseases—as well as the rising burden of stroke and dementia. These conditions, often under-recognized despite their profound impact, require robust epidemiological data, and innovative approaches for diagnosis and treatment. By fostering multi-institutional collaborations, establishing regional registries, and promoting context-specific translational research, we can better understand their epidemiology, identify risk and protective factors and ultimately improve patient care across diverse populations.

I am fortunate to be supported by a dedicated and visionary executive committee, and together, we remain steadfast in our commitment to expanding our educational programs, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, and sustaining our momentum through wider outreach. We have another important task and that is to engage and inspire the next generation of neuropathologists and trainees, whose energy, creativity and fresh perspectives will be essential for sustaining the vibrancy and relevance of our society in the years to come.

I extend a warm invitation to each one of you to actively engage in the society’s activities, contribute your expertise, share your clinical and research insights and help advance our collective vision. Together, we have both the opportunity and the responsibility to bridge diagnostic gaps, uphold the highest standards of practice, and shape the future of Neuropathology across our region. With our combined passion and dedication, we can elevate AOSNP as a beacon of excellence among global academic societies driving scientific progress, fostering collaboration, and making a lasting difference to patient care across the Asian-Oceanian community.

  • Warm Regards.
  • Sincerely Yours,
  • Chitra Sarkar
