- The Joint Workshop between the Asian Society for Neuro-Oncology (ASNO) and the Asian Oceanian Society of Neuropathology (AOSNP) was officially launched at the 18th ASNO 2023 Meeting in Bali as an educational neuropathology session for local pathologists and clinicians.
- This initiative traces back to May 2011 at the 8th ASNO Meeting in Suzhou, China, where late Dr. Keiji Kawamoto, then President of the Japan Society of Brain Tumor Pathology (JSBTP), proposed the idea to Dr. Zhongping Chen, President of the Chinese Society for Neuro- Oncology, who was the Chairperson of ASNO 2011.
- The ASNO-JSBTP joint educational sessions were then carried forward by Dr. Kaoru Kurisu (Hiroshima University) and Dr. Takashi Komori (Tokyo Metropolitan Neurological Hospital), both members of the JSBTP International Committee, and continued through the 16th ASNO 2019 in Taipei until they were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- With the generous support of Dr. Ryo Nishikawa, then President of ASNO, the workshop was revived in 2023 as a joint ASNO-AOSNP session within the pre-ASNO program. It continued in 2024 (Singapore) and 2025 (Shanghai), supported by the respective organizing committees of the ASNO. An overview of these sessions is provided below.
